IT Governance releases e-learning course to help employees stay cyber safe when working from home

IT Governance, the cyber risk and privacy solutions provider, has released the Cyber Security for Remote Workers Staff Awareness E-learning Course to help organisations understand what security measures should be put in place and employees understand the key security practices they should adopt to reduce their chance of falling victim to a cyber attach or phishing scam.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) reported it took down more than 2,000 online COVID-19-related scams in March, including almost 900 advance-fee fraud schemes in which individuals were promised a large sum of money in return for a one-off payment.

Geraint Williams, Chief Information Security Officer at GRC International Group, said: “The main threat during the COVID-19 crisis has been criminals looking to monetise the situation by increasing their online activities around COVID-19-related information. We have also seen a surge in phishing attacks where criminals target individuals by impersonating the UK government claiming to offer tax refunds and many other benefits.

“As organisations deploy remote working at short notice, they should ensure employees know what to do if they face a cyber threat. Organisations should reinforce awareness with monthly security updates, which include the latest phishing and ransomware scams to test employees’ knowledge and ensure they stay cyber safe when working from home.”

IT Governance’s Cyber Security for Remote Workers Staff Awareness E-learning Course will teach employees how to stay safe when working from home. Topics covered include using a shared Wi-Fi network, the key measures they should put in place to avoid falling victim to a cyber attack, how to spot a scam and avoid being caught out by phishing and vishing scams, and the coronavirus-themed malware proliferating on the dark web.
